Congratulations to Noah Kilbourne, a 5th grade student in Mr. Howard’s homeroom, for his outstanding achievement in the “Why My Grandparent Should Be the AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year” essay contest, sponsored by the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association.
Noah wrote his essay honoring his grandparent, Glenna Napier, and his work earned him both the school-level win and the county-level win.
For his accomplishment, Noah received a certificate and a total of $55 in prize money for winning at both levels.
A special thank you to Polly McLain, President of the Local Retired Teachers Association, for supporting and recognizing student achievement.

Parents would you please complete this attendance survey. We are gathering information to help guide our plans for addressing absenteeism next year.

Harlan County FRYSCs and YSC, in partnership with our community collaborators, proudly hosted our Baby Fest Community Baby Shower.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success! We are especially grateful to the Harlan County Extension Depot for generously providing the venue.
The FRYSC team remains committed not only to supporting our students, but also to serving families and individuals in need across Harlan County.

FRYSC recently hosted the 4-H Dollars and Sense Program at Green Hills Elementary for 7th and 8th grade students. This youth development program helps students build financial literacy by applying what they learn in a real-world setting. It emphasizes the importance of responsible money management and planning for a stable financial future.
During the program, each student was given a set amount of money to manage, allowing them to gain hands-on experience making financial decisions. The activity provided valuable insight into budgeting and the impact of everyday choices. At the end of the program, students completed a survey to reflect on what they learned and share their takeaways from the experience.
We appreciate Harlan County 4-H for this opportunity for our students. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped make this possible.
